While we often associate rosé with Provence, Pinot Noir, given the right terroir, can yield some of the finest rosés out there, as seen in Sancerre. With a blend of limestone, terre blanche, and silex terrains, Morin's rosé is complex and versatile. The wine shines with wild fruit notes and hints of spice and pepper. Unlike its Provence counterparts, this rosé is drier and juicier with a lively acidity. Expect a crisp palate of firm wild berries, red cherries, raspberries, and a subtle green undertone.
Even if the ski season has (more or less) finished, there’s no reason not to enjoy this fruity, gamey and vibrant wine all year round. Mondeuse is an indigenous grape that will remind you of other cool grape varieties such as Gamay, Zweigelt or Schiopettino. Perfect for spring, the wine shows delicate notes of forest fruits - such as wild strawberries and raspberries – along with a hint of forest floor, held together with beautiful earthiness. Don’t hesitate to open it 30 minutes before pouring. You can serve it slightly chilled and it’ll go perfectly with a cheese and charcuterie style of dinner (or tartiflette, of course…). For my top suggestion, though, I think this Mondeuse would be perfect with a traditional “pate en croute” or game pie. Quite an undertaking to make at home but if you fancy having a go, look at the recipe from Jason Atherton, who serves it one of his best restaurants with different types of mustard and pickle - and also with fresh pink radish. A great combination of richness in the pie and acidity in the pickles to balance with the wine…just delightful.
In collaboration with Graham Tatomer London Cru have released a cool climate Californian Chardonnay in Santa Barbara. The vineyard site in Sierra Madre was hand selected by Graham and Alex and the wine made and bottled by Graham. The wine arrived in the UK and was brought straight to the London Cru winery for the much anticipated launch party.
"From a high-terraced slope above the Isère valley, Roussanne grown here gives a consistently fine, rich and complex wine. Honeyed and stony on the nose, it tastes unctuous, yet with balancing acidity and hints of apricot and saline character towards the finish. A lovely wine, which will develop more complexity with age." Wink Lorch, decanter.com, 94 pts
Natacha’s Crozes-Hermitage is dense and concentrated. But even with this concentration of fruit, she manages to maintain a beautiful balance. Lovely to drink now and will develop and improve with a bit of ageing. This is a textbook example of Northern Rhone Syrah.
The entry-level stablemate of Sassicaia, Le Difese was first produced in 2002 intended solely for the local market, but its success with international customers has seen production scaled up over time. The three separate parcels of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan take up less than 1Ha of land. This small production of wine is surprising and ever so interesting, remaining lively yet still displaying developed aromatics.
Beautifully pure, bright and juicy Pinot Noir, grown by top Sancerre producer Pierre Morin, son of the now retired Gerard.
To the north of Montpellier, in the foothills of the Cevennes Mountains, with some of the highest altitude vineyards in the Languedoc is the Terrasses du Larzac AOC. This fledgling appellation, created in 2005, is strictly reserved to red wines, where Southern French staples Mourvèdre, Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault & Carignan are grown to produce deep coloured, full bodied, fruit forward wines. Mas des Brousses's expression is unique and not quite like any other we've tried. A perfect balance between Mediterranean warmth with the freshness of Larzac makes for a wonderful Autumnal wine.
The south-east facing vineyards are surrounded by indigenous flora such as; shrubs, trees and plants that thrive in the wild garrigue: rosemary, bay, thyme, broom, oak, pine…
