First released in 1968, Sassicaia is one of the most best and most famous of the Super Tuscans. Shockingly different when it first appeared, its quality has been so high for so long that is is now, deservedly, an accepted classic. One of Italy's greatest wines.
Sassicaia was one of the original ‘Super Tuscan’ wines, a movement that elected to ignore the rules and regulations that had restricted Italian winemakers. “One of the great names of Italian wine lives up to its billing in this vintage. It blends Cabernets Sauvignon (85%) and Franc (15%) for a red that is so elegant and harmonious, a sheen of silken tannin and pure red and black fruit and that insinuation of Mediterranean scrub and salty olive. Gorgeously textured, and will keep for a very long time.”
“There is very little left to say about this extraordinary wine, except to continue to extol its proverbial elegance and amazing consistency. Year in year out Sassicaia captures the character of the vintage in all its positive aspects while avoiding the attendant pitfalls. It can be delicate without losing structure and ripe without losing freshness, all the while maintaining its own unmistakable style. Extremely aromatic notes of red berries, sour red cherries, violet, white pepper and fresh herbs. Finishes very bright and fresh.' ”
“This is one of Italy's greatest wines and was bought at a bargain price. Delivery was effected within 24 hours superb service”
