This is a vintage crémant made in the traditional method (the same as Champagne) and is great value for money.
Part of the appellation is sheltered from the heat by two mountain ranges, so nights are much cooler here and the result is a wine with much more freshness and acidity than those closer to the sea. Energetic and zingy, this is pretty much perfect.
The rise of the small domaine over the past 20 years has changed the face of French wine but Limoux is one of the few appellations that is still overwhelmingly dominated by a co-operative. Sieur d’Arques produces ...Learn more
"Crémant is brilliant value bubbly made in the same method as Champagne but outside of the Champagne region in France. This bottle is like a coiled spring of lemon peel waiting to leap into your glass. It’s delicious, splendidly refreshing and so delicate it feels like it's been fashioned by the elves."
"Telegraph readers have been voyaging to France to stock up on this since I first recommended it in the paper two years ago and I’m thrilled to see that Roberson now import it. It might not have the C-word on the label but this is so much more of a wine than the cheap Aldi fizz. Invigorating and insistent, like a bracing walk on a frosty day. Made by the traditional method in the foothills of the Pyrenees, in Limoux, from a blend of chardonnay, chenin blanc, mauzac and pinot noir."
"Lots of development on the nose. Amazingly well priced really. Quite light but sufficiently dry and delicate. There are many champagnes that offer much less pleasure than this! ... Very good value."
"Full-flavoured with rich, bready aromas, this is a characterful blend of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Pinot Noir and Mauzac. It exudes rounded flavours of dried apricot, roasted nutes and bruised apple. A flavoursome and rustic autumnal fizz."
"For a non-champagne sparkler, my pick is Les Graimenous 2011, Crémant de Limoux, a brilliant version of the Languedoc’s sparkling wine..."
"When Crémant is as cracking as this, it's impossible to ignore its value-for-money credentials. Fine bubbles, perky lemon fruit and a fines minerality zippiness throughout. Made from classic Loire grapes Chenin Blanc and Pinot Noir, together with some Chardonnay and Mauzac for good measure."
"Quality fizz that isn’t champagne is called crémant ... It’s often great value. This one has apple and lemon flavours."
"One of my favourite finds so far this year. Top quality fizz, zillions of elfish bubbles, precision zing, gorgeous intensity and stunning value for money with a classy label. A top buy."
"Attractive typographical label. Very pure, clean, direct. Quite simple - as one would expect for such a young wine - but it seems great value to me. Mountain stream stuff."
