Home of the legendary Sassicaia, a wine that redefined Italian winemaking and ushered in a new age, this estate continues to push new boundaries with recent vintages being better then ever. In addition, harsher selection into the Grand Vin has resulted in the second wine, Guildalberto getting better every year.

Tenuta San Guido - a chosen few from us

Bolgheri Sassicaia 1988, Tenuta San Guido

£552.75

First released in 1968, Sassicaia is one of the most best and most famous of the Super Tuscans. Shockingly different when it first appeared, its quality has been so high for so long that is is now, deservedly, an accepted classic. One of Italy's greatest wines.

Sassicaia was one of the original ‘Super Tuscan’ wines, a movement that elected to ignore the rules and regulations that had restricted Italian winemakers. It translates as ‘the place of many stones’ which refers to the vineyard's stoney ground. It's success was so complete that in 1994 was granted its own appellation, Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC.
