Château Suduiraut

"Tasted at Hermitage Wines’ seminar in Hong Kong. A consistent note compared to the one earlier this year. It has a mature bouquet with mandarin, tangerine, orange rind, lanolin and dried honey that lacks sweetness but is very well defined. The palate is beautifully balanced and fresh with quince and orange rind, a touch of honeycomb towards the long finish that seems dry when compared to the more extravagant 2001. Certainly, this is the best Suduiraut of the decade. Tasted November 2011." - Neal Martin

Château d'Yquem ex-chateau

"The 1985 Yquem is a very powerful, rich, exceptionally concentrated wine. Yet because of the lack of botrytis in the vineyards during this hot, dry vintage, the wine does not have the complexity so frequently encountered. Nevertheless, this massive, unctuous, light golden-colored Yquem makes quite a mouthful of wine given the honeyed flavors. It is hard to know when a wine such as this will be fully mature, but I have no hesitation saying that the wine will certainly last for 25-30 or more years. But I do not see it ever being among the great Yquems. Anticipated maturity: Now-2025." - Robert Parker

Château Suduiraut

"Tasted from the Chateau reserves at the estate. The ’89 is a little lighter in hue compared to the Suduiraut ’90. The nose offers caramelized pear, frangipane, yellow flowers and a touch of quince, moderate vigour at first, but opening nicely with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a touch of bitter orange rind on the entry, marmalade, quince and a mandarin and dried apricot on the finish. There is good length to this Suduiraut, although it misses a little breeding, perhaps due to the denuding by the Creme de Tete. Tasted February 2011." - Neal Martin

Château Climens

"The 1990 continues to develop exceptionally well (better than I thought), and now looks to be a worthy rival of the dazzling 1988. The superb aromatics (pineapple, acacia, vanilla, and honey) are followed by a rich, full-bodied, atypically powerful Climens that possesses adequate acidity, high alcohol, and even higher levels of extract and fruit. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2030." - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate.

Château d'Yquem

"The 1998 Chateau Yquem was released several months ago. This estate does not allow tasting from cask (where the wine spends 42 months), and it is not released until five years after the vintage. The 1998 Yquem (95 points) is a great success. Made in an elegant style, it is not a blockbuster such as 1990, 1989, and 1988. It is well-delineated, with wonderfully sweet aromas of creme brulee, pineapples, apricots, and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, it is not as sweet as the biggest/richest Yquem vintages, but it is gorgeously pure, precise, and strikingly complex. Already approachable, it should evolve for 30-50 years ... without a doubt." - Robert Parker

Château d'Yquem

"Tasted at Bordeaux Index’s Christmas lunch. The ’98 d’Yquem has a more extravagant nose than I remember, less mineralite than it displayed in its youth and perhaps a little more alcoholic on the nose. There are touches of pineapple, mango, treacle and custard cremes, becoming peachier with time in the glass. The palate is viscous on the entry and very well balanced with honeycomb, white peach, apricot and wild honey that leads to a powerful, if not elegant finish. The ’98 is a little “unruly” at present. Drink 2016-2030. Tasted December 2010." - Neal Martin

Château Climens

"Tasted blind at the 10-Year On Tasting in Sauternes. The 2005 Château Climens just soars from the glass with layers of clear honey, marmalade, nectarine and minerals all beautifully carved. The palate is medium-bodied with fresh, vibrant honeyed fruit that builds and builds in the mouth in tandem with a killer line of acidity. Even though it is a convincing, great Climens, you also have the impression that it is only just beginning to show what it is capable of. Bérénice Lurton and her team excelled in this vintage and it comes strongly recommended." - Neal Martin

Château Haut Brion Blanc

"It is always interesting to taste this wine next to its stablemate, Laville Haut-Brion. While Laville has 80% Semillon in it, giving it more fat and concentration, Haut-Brion is 55% Sauvignon Blanc and 45% Semillon. This is a crisp yet powerful wine, full-bodied, with great minerality and a subtle smokiness intermixed with hints of quince, white currant, orange skin, and lemon custard. Long, rich, and tightly knit, with good acidity and no evidence of any oak whatsoever despite the use of 100% new French oak, this wine is set for a long life as well. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2035." - Robert Parker

Château Haut Brion Blanc

"This has a really lovely, beautifully defined bouquet with fresh lemon, grapefruit and dried orange peel. The oak is very well integrated and it develops a smoked meaty tinge with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with grapefruit, spice, a touch of lemongrass and pear. It is quite phenolic towards the finish, but certainly very harmonious with hints of Kaffir lime developing with time. Like the Laville Haut-Brion, it just improves with each passing moment. Château Climens

"Tasted blind at the Sauternes 2011 horizontal tasting. The Château Climens 2011 has one of the most potent aromatics of the flight with expressive honey, fig, barley sugar and grilled almond nose that is reminiscent of Château Doisy-Védrines. The palate is very well balanced with fine acidity, layers of honey fruit tinged with white chocolate and quince. It fans out toward the unctuous finish that feels long, persistent and satisfying. Climens often takes a few years to shows its true class and this will be no different." - Neal Martin

Château Pape Clement Blanc

"Strikingly concentrated, a la a grand cru white Burgundy, the 2013 Pape Clement exhibits notes of orange zest, white currants, flowers, exotic mango and melony fruit. This medium to full-bodied, compellingly deep, fresh white wine should drink well for 10-20 years. It is a candidate for the white wine of the vintage in Bordeaux." - Robert Parker

Château d'Yquem

"The Château Yquem 2014 was picked over 9 weeks this year, with one-quarter of the grapes picked prior to 15 September. It delivers 134 grams per liter residual sugar and 7.3 grams per liter tartaric acid, with a pH 3.60. It has a captivating bouquet (I know...I know...what else were you expecting) But it entrances with its pure, wild honey notes mixed with almond and white chocolate scents, bestowed with beguiling delineation and focus. The palate is very poised with the acidity nigh on perfect. Occasionally an Yquem only reveals its components parts at this early juncture, necessitates conjecture. However the 2014 has a sense of harmony and completeness already, as if the élevage is merely there to usher it on to its finished state. There is undeniably great depth here, perhaps less conspicuous than other vintages because of that silver thread of acidity: notes of lemon sherbet, orange zest, shaved ginger and again, a few "flakes' of white chocolate. It is extremely long with tenderness rather than power on the finish. It's not quite up there in the rarefied heights of say, the 2001 or 2009, but it is what we call in the trade, "the business."" - Neal Martin
