MESHACH SHIRAZ 2001, GRANT BURGE

PRODUCER NOTES

Grant Burge’s garrulous, expressive and forthright personality contains the same spirit of the Barossa valley as the wines he creates from old family vineyards. The beefy Mesach is rightly the figurehead, crafted from old Shiraz vines from the 1920’s. Earlier vintages were criticised a little for heavy use of oak but since 1990 the wine has been top-flight, rich, tarry and complex. A superb value is the Filsell Shiraz which in many years contains all the fruit that would go into the Mesach. The whites here are very good as well, full, creamy and well balanced.
