TASTING NOTES
'The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is a gracious, classy wine. Sweet red cherries, flowers, mint and spices are just some of the aromas and flavors that emerge from this mid-weight, restrained Brunello. In 2006 Altesino’s Brunello impresses for its balance, freshness and finessed tannins. It isn’t a blockbuster, but it will drink well upon release and over the next decade or so, perhaps longer. Floral notes waft from the glass on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020 ... 90 points.'

PRODUCER NOTES
Based in the far north of the Montalcino region, Altesino have been beating new paths for the rest of the region to follow from 1979, when they first introduced French oak barriques for maturation of the wines. The concept of a specific Brunello 'cru' was used for the first time here in 1975 (for the Mentesoli vineyard). More recently, in 1985, Altesino were the first in the region to offer en-primeur. The style here is quite modern but still recognisably Brunello. The wines regularly achieve great scores in the U.S. and Britain and yet are priced very reasonably.
