TASTING NOTES
An excellent example of the value that can still be found in Bordeaux, this 2004 has all the hallmarks of the Médoc, with cassis fruit and a fine structure. Best of all, there's no need to wait, this is drinking perfectly now.
PRODUCER NOTES
The Château Hourtin-Ducasse is located in Saint-Sauveur, a district bordering that of Pauillac. It has been producing wine with the bourgeois cru classification since 1932. Two of the chateau’s previous owners from the 18th and 19th centuries, Mr. Hourtin and Mr. Ducasse, gave it its name. Its current owners, the Marengo family, acquired the chateau in 1976.
The Marengo vineyards spread across 30 hectares, with 25 hectares of vines aged on average 15 to 20 years. The soil is gravel and silica and the plantings are 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. The wines are fermented in stainless steel vats and then aged in one- or two-year-old barrels.
