TASTING NOTES
This Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Usseglio is an extremely classy wine at a very good price. Full-bodied, rich and powerful, it is at its best partnered with similarly robust food.
PRODUCER NOTES
Francis Usseglio left Italy in 1931 to work at Chateauneuf du Pape in France. He humbly learned from local winegrowers and developed a passion for wine. In 1948, after the war, he decided to acquire his own property and had two sons - Pierre and Raymond. Pierre Usseglio inherited his father's property and Raymond established another estate. Today the third generation is in charge. The sons of Pierre Usseglio, Jean-Pierre and Thierry run Domaine Pierre Usseglio and Stephanie runs Domaine Raymond Usseglio.
The Estate covers 21 hectares divided in 15 different parcels in the appellation. Half of the vines are about 60 years old and the rest has an average age of 30 years old. Grenache is the main grape.
Thierry and Jean-Pierre have won high praises for his top wines, which are usually robust and have notes of spicy cherries, earth, pepper and black raspberry. Full bodied and richly textured.
