TASTING NOTES

2002 was a tricky vintage for many vignerons (all over France in fact, with the exception of Burgundy), but thanks to the high altitude of Peyre Rose and the incredibly rocky vineyards (great for drainage when its raining), Marlene produced some wonderful wines. The Clos des Cistes is more open that the Leone at this point of their evolution and is packed full of berry fruit, garrigue herbs and meaty notes. There is a lusciously rich texture and layer after layer of complex flavours to wrap your palate around - nothing that we've tasted from the Rhone or Languedoc in 2002 comes close to this. When Mark was judging at the 2010 Languedoc Top 40 awards, this was his #1 wine and it is a fixture on Michelin starred restaurant wine lists all over the world.

PRODUCER NOTES

Every region has its stars and one of the Languedoc's brightest is Domaine Peyre Rose. Former real estate agent Marlene Soria stumbled across this beautiful property back in the late 1980s when she was showing it to a client - rather than sell it to them, she bought it herself! After discovering that part of the property she had bought was some old vineyards, Marlene embarked on her new hobby by vinifying the 1991 vintage (in medievel circumstances) and producing two spectacular Syrah based wines - Clos des Cistes (with 15% Grenache) and Clos Leone (with 15% Mourverdre). The wines received great reviews in the Guide Hachette and since then have been rightly lauded all over the world by critics, sommeliers and collectors alike.
