TASTING NOTES
Palmer is undoubtedly one of the greatest estates in Bordeaux, and this wine, the Alter Ego de Palmer, is described by its maker as an 'alternative expression of the same terroir'. Made in a more modern and approachable style than the top wine, this is an outstanding Bordeaux in its own right, and does not require the many years of ageing that its older sibling needs to become enjoyable.
PRODUCER NOTES
Third growth Château Palmer is frequently touted as a possible candidate for promotion to first growth status because of its consistently outstanding performance. In its greatest vintages it can outshine everything else. The ’61, for example, is described by Broadbent as possessing an ‘indescribably lovely bouquet and flavour. Perfection’. He goes on to give it six stars out of five, a very rare distinction placing it above all other 61’s.
A vertical tasting we held in 2008 confirmed that even in lesser vintages, this is an exceptional claret.
The second wine, Alter Ego de Palmer, is described as an alternative interpretation of the same vineyard, being more modern in character and a classy wine all on its own.
