1 x Brut N.V., Laurent-Perrier
Laurent-Perrier's non-vintage blend is an exceptionally fine Champagne in the aperitif style. Light, elegant and toasty, this is a delicious and complex wine.
Laurent-Perrier favour the French or apéritif style of Champagne – lightness, elegance, simplicity – over the more full-bodied character traditionally prized in this country. By far the best wines are the Grand Siècle prestige cuvées, which are complex and long-lived. The Brut NV is a consistent performer though very much at the lighter end of the Champagne spectrum, while the iconic rosé which graced many a 1980s dinner party always seems to go down a treat.

1 x Puligny-Montrachet 'Les Enseignères' 2009, Domaine Chavy-Chouet
'...dive into a glass of the sumptuously creamy Domaine Chavy-Chouet 2009 Puligny Montrachet 'Les Enseignères' (£29.95, Roberson; 13% abv) – heaven on its own or with a wild mushroom risotto.'
- Fiona Beckett (The Guardian, 30th September 2011)Based in the village of Puligny-Montrachet, Romaric Chavy of Domaine Chavy-Chouet is currently making some of the best value white Burgundies on the market. This wine, from the famous 'Enseignères' vineyard, is of exceptional quality - taut, complex, and extremely well balanced.
Romaric Chavy is the 7th generation of the family to work their vines. The activity of filling bottles only started in 1982 with Romaric’s grandfather – before they supplied everything to the négoce. That first vintage began with 4,000 bottles – by 2005 Romaric’s father, Hubert was bottling up to 25,000 bottles – once Romaric finished his ‘school’ in Beaune (2006) they started filling 80,000 bottles – just a few barrels still go to the négoce. Romaric also had spells working abroad, and in Burgundy with his godfather, Francois Mikulski.
The Chouet in the domaine’s name refers to Hubert’s ‘first wife’ – when ‘first’ became ‘apparent’ there were some subsequent vintages where the label became only ‘Hubert Chavy’ but Romaric is heading back to the Chavy-Chouet!

1 x Arômes de Pavie 2007, Château Pavie
Since Gerard Perse took over at Chateau Pavie, quality (and price!) has sky-rocketed. Decreasing production by as much as 50%, he has concentrated on quality above all else. Many Bordeaux insiders believe Pavie to have one of, if not the best terroirs in all of St-Emillion. This Second Wine is relatively new on the market and offers more than a glimpse of the majesty of the Grand Vin for a fraction of the price. Made from the younger vines of the estate, this smooth and stylish wine is a blend of 70% Merlot and Cabernets Franc and Merlot
What more can be said about Château Pavie? A controversial wine if ever there was one, lauded by some for its power, criticised by others for its lack of typicity. Whether you like the style or not, it is a wine of undisputed singularity in Bordeaux, svelte, elegant and massive, particularly in warmer years. Ever since new owner Perse took over in 1998 no expense has been spared to extract the most from this magnificent terroir, said by some Bordeaux old-timers to be one of the greatest in all of Bordeaux.
