  • 1 x Gevrey-Chambertin 'Les Seuvrees' 2007, Domaine Michel Magnien

Michel Magnien make a range of excellent wines from various villages across Burgundy, and Gevrey Chambertin is one of his most successful areas. This wine is full-bodied, with a delicious meaty character to complement the sweet cherry fruit.

Born in 1946, Michel Magnien is the 4th generation of winemakers from the Magnien family.
From a tender age, he worked in the 4 hectares of vineyards belonging to his father, Bernard Magnien. From 1967 to1991, Michel Magnien and his wife, Dominique acquired numerous plots of vines that they dedicated themselves to cultivating, tending, harvesting and making wine. In 1988 Michel Magnien took over his father's vineyards as a tenant farmer and continued to deliver the Bernard Magnien annual harvest to the Morey-Saint-Denis cooperative. In 1993, Frédéric Magnien joined the family business and persuaded his father that they should bottle the entire harvest themselves.
Today, 19 hectares of Grands Crus, Premiers Crus, Villages and regional appellation vines are grown on the Michel Magnien & Fils estate. The quality of Michel Magnien wines reflects the meticulous care he confers on his vineyards.

  • 1 x Puligny-Montrachet 'Les Enseignères' 2009, Domaine Chavy-Chouet

'...dive into a glass of the sumptuously creamy Domaine Chavy-Chouet 2009 Puligny Montrachet 'Les Enseignères' (£29.95, Roberson; 13% abv) – heaven on its own or with a wild mushroom risotto.'
    - Fiona Beckett (The Guardian, 30th September 2011)

Based in the village of Puligny-Montrachet, Romaric Chavy of Domaine Chavy-Chouet is currently making some of the best value white Burgundies on the market. This wine, from the famous 'Enseignères' vineyard, is of exceptional quality - taut, complex, and extremely well balanced.

Romaric Chavy is the 7th generation of the family to work their vines. The activity of filling bottles only started in 1982 with Romaric’s grandfather – before they supplied everything to the négoce. That first vintage began with 4,000 bottles – by 2005 Romaric’s father, Hubert was bottling up to 25,000 bottles – once Romaric finished his ‘school’ in Beaune (2006) they started filling 80,000 bottles – just a few barrels still go to the négoce. Romaric also had spells working abroad, and in Burgundy with his godfather, Francois Mikulski.
The Chouet in the domaine’s name refers to Hubert’s ‘first wife’ – when ‘first’ became ‘apparent’ there were some subsequent vintages where the label became only ‘Hubert Chavy’ but Romaric is heading back to the Chavy-Chouet!
