This historic estate makes wines of outstanding quality, and has been advised for many years by Maurizio Castelli - a world famous winemaker, collecting awards from all over the world. In 2008, it was bought by Francesco Illy- of the coffee firm and a huge fan of the MastroJanni wines- who is letting the estate being run just as before. Hugh Johnson has called it 'splendid'.
