TASTING NOTES
This is classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc; strongly flavoured, dry, with an intense, almost pungent aroma of tropical fruit, grass and asparagus.
PRODUCER NOTES
This boutique, family owned vineyard sits high in the Awatere Valley, in the New Zealand wine-making hot spot of Marlborough, on the country's South Island. Clark Estate produces premium quality, single vineyard wines from Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Riesling. Stony soils result in mineral, stone fruit flavours, characteristic of Awatere wine.
The estate is run by Jane and Peter, who set up the vineyard in 1998 after long careers as a nurse and a soldier. They wanted to leave city life behind and thought that growing grapes sounded like a good option.
It took a few years before they learned how to get the very best from their crop and the terroir, but they now produce award winning Marlborough wines. They have also been an accredited member of the Sustainable Growing New Zealand scheme since 2004, and take environmental responsibility very seriously.
With their son and two daughters also now working for the estate, this is a hands-on family business. They describe themselves as ‘a work in progress … constantly evolving as our journey continues’.
