TASTING NOTES

'A blend of Dolcetto (80%) and Merlot (20%), this wine is full of freshness and vitality. The French use the term ‘vin de soif’ for this sort of wine – a red that seems to quench your thirst and make you thirsty for more at the same time. The dark cherry fruit is a moreish combination of sweet and sour, the texture is sappy but smooth, and there is just enough tannin to make you think about frying a steak, but not quite enough to interrupt your enjoyment of glugging back a glass.'

PRODUCER NOTES

In the Valle Unite (‘United Valley’) in the 1990's, three farmers decided they were tired of 'conventional' chemical-filled farming, and decided to form a commune where they could co-exist and combine forces to benefit the group.

Four families are now part of the project, making bread, cheese, meats and of course wine. They are almost completely self-sufficient, using solar panels for power and making buildings from material found on the estate.

Ottavio is in charge of winemaking. His family have been doing it since 1382 and the 20 hectares of vineyards are planted with Timorasso, Cortese, Croatina, Dolcetto, Moretto, Barbera and Merlot. All except Merlot are traditional Piedmontese grapes which reflect the character of this wonderful terroir.

The vines are farmed biodynamically and wines are made with minimal intervention. Everything is done as naturally as possible, wild yeasts are used and additions of sulphur are kept to an absolute minimum. This approach is prevalent when you taste the freshness and vitality of the wines.

The first thing we look for at Roberson is delicious wine. When it is made in such a responsible way, it only serves to add to our enjoyment.
