Their vineyards comprise 13 hectares. Of this, 50 percent is planted to Grüner Veltliner, 48 percent boasts Riesling vines and 2 percent is reserved to Sauvignon Blanc. Around 40 percent of the area under vine sprawls across the steeply rising terraces, while 60 percent extends at the foot of the mountains and in the planes of the Loiben Basin, at the eastern end of the Wachau. There is manual picking of premium-quality, physiologically ripe grapes, careful grape processing, and traditional upbringing of the wines in large oak casks that are 30 to 40 years old. F.X. Pichler aims for naturalness and distinctiveness, consistently doing without chaptalization, fining and concentration.
