PRODUCER NOTES
Domaine Rieflé is a relatively new entity (having been set up in 1966) but winemaking in the Rieflé family goes back a lot further than that, to the early eighteenth century. Now run by the brothers Jean-Claude and Annick Rieflé, the wines are made in a very pure, mineral style which is never overpowering.
Domaine Rieflé produces three ranges; Classique, Côte de Rouffach, and Steinert Grand Cru, which all have distinctive personalities. The Classique range is a varietal selection offering superb value and all of the hallmarks of the Rieflé style. The Côte de Rouffach range comes from named vineyards with limestone soils. The Steinert wines come from an east-facing, modestly-steep vineyard, 240-320m above sea level; formed on dry, stony sediment over a limestone base.
The wines are classic Alsace – expressive of their grape varieties, full of flavour, well-structured, (mostly) dry and stunningly good value. From the lowliest Pinot Blanc to the Grand Cru Riesling, these are undervalued and delicious.
