BEAUJOLAIS-VILLAGES 2008, JULIEN SUNIER

TASTING NOTES

The Beaujolais-Villages is in fact a multi-crus blended from the grapes of three different sites. The vines are an average of 55 years old and the finished wine is simply delicious. The nose is packed full of gorgeous juicy red fruits and the palate is round and fresh with soft tannins and a touch of pepper on the finish. Its simplicity is a delight. Unfussy, unpretentious, this is a wine to drink and enjoy rather than ponder about, around a nice charcuterie platter if possible!

PRODUCER NOTES

It is a breath of fresh air to find someone as passionate about Beaujolais as Julien Sunier at a time when most producers in the region are happy churning out wines that taste like liquid candy. The Domaine is located in the town of Avenas with vineyards scattered on three different Crus: Regnie, Fleurie and Morgon. The vineyards are organically farmed and the approach to viticulture is edging towards biodynamic. Hand picked grapes are brought to the winery where they undergo a long and slow carbonic maceration and the wines aged in 228 litre barriques for eight to twelve months.
