PRODUCER NOTES
Château Pichon-Longueville, Comtesse de Lalande, to give it its full and somewhat cumbersome name, is one of two Châteaux (the other being Pichon-Baron) which share the great Pichon estate. Lalande has risen above its sibling to become consistently one of the great wines of Pauillac, with a stunning run of success year in, year out. The high proportion of merlot is unusual for Pauillac, but it seems to work, producing a wine with a velvety texture that sometimes seems closer in spirit to St-Julien than Pauillac (perhaps not surprising given that the southern portion of the vineyard is actually located there).
Consistently reliable, Pichon-Lalande has scarcely put a foot wrong in the last thirty years.
