TASTING NOTES
A great value Châteauneuf-du-Pape from one of our favourite producers, this is full-bodied, powerful wine, drinking beautifully now with the right (rich, meaty) food, but also capable of improving in the cellar for a few years.
PRODUCER NOTES
Patrick Lesec is a ‘negociant’ firm and it doesn't have vineyards of its own. Originally a Restaurateur in California, Patrick saw that the French wine producers were not completely satisfying costumers' wishes, so he decided to travel to France in 1990 and started finding producers all over the country, but mostly in the Rhone area, who shared his winemaking philosophy. The wines were sold all over the USA and Canada. Patrick makes great efforts to search out the finest terroirs, the best soils with old vineyards — and thus the finest sources of grapes — in each appellation. These are often growers who own parcels of the best sites, but who may not bottle wine under their own label. Once Patrick has located and made agreements with these growers, he works closely with them to produce the highest quality possible using his principles of non-interventionist winemaking. First, he tastes through all the barrels and tanks and makes a strict selection of components he wishes to blend into his final cuvee. The variables in this process include different grape varieties, different vineyard sites, and even different lots of the same wines.
