CROZES-HERMITAGE 2009, DOMAINE ALéOFANE (NATACHA CHAVE)

TASTING NOTES
After harvest, the grapes were 100% de-stemmed before undergoing a cold pre-fermentation, followed by a temperature-controlled maceration. Only natural, wild yeasts, were used for fermentation. Her Crozes-Hermitage is neither fined nor filtered.
Natacha’s Crozes-Hermitage is dense and concentrated. Even with this concentration of fruit, she was able to maintain a beautiful balance in the wine. The Crozes is deep, dark, purple in the glass, with a rich black cherry and blackberry nose. In the mouth the intense black fruit flavours mingle with hints of black pepper, and soft ripe tannins. While this is a wine that could be cellared for several years, the rich fruit flavours also make it enjoyable now.
PRODUCER NOTES
Natacha's parents realised their dream of becoming winemakers and their small estate was passed on to Natacha's brother. Instead of joining him Natacha felt she needed the independence to make wines in her style from start to finish. She began with a small plot in St Joseph in 2004 and then in 2007 added a small, plot of old vines in Crozes Hermitage.
The name 'Aléofane' comes from a book by John MacMillan Brown regarding a fictional island. The word 'Aleofane' here translates as 'a gem of truth'.
