'I COLOMBI' SANGIOVESE 2010, CASTELLO DI QUERCETO

TASTING NOTES
This 100% Sangiovese could actually qualify as a Chianti Classico as all of the fruit is from vineyards within the zone. Alessandro prefers to declassify the fruit into this I.G.T as it comes from the youngest vines on the estate and while it may not be a vin de garde, it drinks beautifully in its first few years. The combination of fresh dark cherry fruit and creamy vanilla (from the 12 months spent in oak) is superbly balanced, resulting in a wine that punches well above its weight.
PRODUCER NOTES
According to the famed Gambero Rosso guide, “Castello di Querceto remains among the most impressive operations, with its entire line of wines riding high”.
The spectacular 65 hectare estate has been owned by the Francois family for over 100 years and the current owner Alessandro has overseen a significant rise in quality over the last decade, resulting in a great deal of critical acclaim, most notably from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.
Querceto is one of the highest estates in the Chianti Classico zone and they are renowned for the freshness and elegance of their wines. They effortlessly combine classic Sangiovese characteristics with the silky and luxurious texture you would expect from one of the region’s best estates.
