LE PETIT SCARABEE 2008, DOMAINE DES ESCARAVAILLES

PRODUCER NOTES

The name of the domain comes from the nickname given by the people of Rasteau to a priest in the17th century who used to wear a long black coat and owned the farm at the time. In Occitan, Escaravaille means beetle.
The great advantage of the Escaravailles Terroir is to be situated at a high altitude (around 250 m) with steep slopes.
These conditions are fundamental for the quality of the wine as the slopes allow perfect drainage and exposure and the altitude optimises important thermal amplitude between the day and the night, ideal to bring great harmony and freshness to the wines.
At Domaine des Escaravailles, the use of chemicals is very minimalist and the soils are worked all year round mechanically.
The harvest is done manually and the grapes are selected on the vine and again as soon as they arrive in the cellar.
They are are totally destemmed, vinified and aged in a 'semi underground' cellar situated at the heights of Rasteau. The result is a wine that is elegant and persistent in flavour.
