PRODUCER NOTES
Born in 1938, Henri Bonneau is 12th generation of wine growers. He made his first vintage in 1956 and today is helped in the cellars by his son, Marcel.
Wine Spectator magazine has called Bonneau the dean of Châteauneuf-du-Pape as he is a true legend in the region. Consequently, Bonneau's wines are among the most famous and the priciest in the world and their availability is very limited.
His domain covers only 6 hectares., mainly planted with Grenache that normally counts for more than 90% of the blend and added with small amounts of Mourvedre, Counoise and Vaccarèse. Yields are kept low and vinfication and elevage are traditional with the use of wooden foudres and smaller oak barrels. Typically the wine are aged in oak for 3-4 years before being bottled unfiltered.
Henri Bonneau still decides each vintage which cuvées he will make - Sometimes one and sometimes up to four.
