MALBEC RESERVA 2008, BODEGA LURTON

TASTING NOTES
The Malbec Reserva is a step up from Lurton's basic range. With better fruit and judicious use of oak this is an eminently satisfying drop perfect with similarly rich, meaty dishes.
PRODUCER NOTES
Since 1980, the Lurton brothers have operated a classy winery in Mendoza with around 140 hectares under vine. The varietal range offers great value and the top wines, particularly the Piedra Negra and Chacayes Malbec bottlings, showing superb polish and sophistication.
The Lurton family was one of the first foreign companies to invest in Argentina. Recognising the potential of this country to produce world-class wines they purchased 200 hectares in the Uco Valley in Mendoza. In 1996, as a result of a major investment, a modern winery was built. The estate lies high up at an altitude of 1,100m, literally at the foot of the Andes. With a terroir of sand, granite schist, alluvial deposits and large rounded pudding stones these are suitably poor and well draining for qualitative vine growing. The resulting wines are blessed with abundant fruit and a fine sense of balance.
Aswell as classic Argentinian wines, they make an unusual Corte Friulano Blanco, a delicious blend of Sauvignon Vert, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Torrentes, partially aged in oak to produce a textured wine reminiscent of the great wines of Friuli in Italy.
