MONASTRELL 2005, BODEGAS FINCA LUZON
TASTING NOTES
Monastrell is the grape used in the full-bodied and deep wines of Jumilla in Southern Spain (and appears in many a chunky Southern red under the guise of Mourvedre). Rich and chocolately with layers of juicy plum and damson fruit, this stunning red is big and vibrant - the perfect partner for a slab of rare steak.
PRODUCER NOTES
Bodegas Luzon was originally founded in 1916 but it was only in the 1990's when it came under new ownership that the wines were truly worth the effort. The wines here are mostly made from local varieties, and Monastrell is favoured as it produces deep coloured wines that stand up well to the toasty American and French barrels the wine is matured in. These wines sum up well everything that is exciting about the 'New Spain' and the value that can be found there.
