DRINK ME 2008, NIEPOORT

TASTING NOTES

The idea behind Drink Me was to create a pleasant, easy drinking red wine while retaining the complexity, mineral notes and great depth found in the classic wines of the Douro valley. This blend of Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Amarela and Tinta Barroca succeeds admirably in that task, being a delicious red wine with plenty of genuine Portugese character.

PRODUCER NOTES

Dirk Niepoort is one of the most vibrant and interesting winemakers in Portugal. Based in the Douro since 1842, it's now being run by the fifth generation. Team Niepoort like to push the boundaries to make unusual, elegant wines. Morgadio da Calçada is a collaboration between Niepoort and AN old Douro family living at that estate.

The small family vineyard located at an altitude of 500m provides an interesting resource with some old vines of more than 80 years. In the vinyard there is no herbicide used and vinfication is natural. Their tawnies receive further ageing in glass demijohns and their vintage ports have gone from strength to strength for some time.
