PRODUCER NOTES

Krug is the king of Champagne – you’ve only got to look at the bottle (although it does look slightly less kingly now they’ve taken away some of the gold). Or alternatively, you could try the wine. What you’ll find if you do is a genuinely unique style which is the result of a fanatical devotion to quality, and a distinctive flavour that results from fermentation in small oak barrels. Krug argue, with justification, that the Grande Cuvée, ie the non-vintage blend, should rightly be considered to rank alongside other houses’ prestige cuvées. Which is fine, but then what of the vintage Krug? Even more expensive, even richer and more powerful, these are truly great wines. The rosé is probably the best in the business.
