Château Lynch-Bages seems to occupy a special place in the hearts of British wine lovers, who know it affectionately as “lunch-bags”. A major vertical tasting held at Roberson in 2008 confirmed that this is classic Pauillac, dominated by Cabernet flavours and with a magnificent capacity to age. The ’61 and the ’82 were drinking beautifully, and the many great vintages since still have time in the bank. One of the most reliable things in Bordeaux, regularly outperforming its fifth-growth status.

The second wine, Haut-Bages-Averous is one of the best in Bordeaux, with a following all of its own and a similar capacity to age.
