BURGUNDY: GRANDS CRUS VS 1ER CRUS: THE PROMOTION/DEMOTION DEBATE
Please note this event has already happened
Date: 7pm, Thursday 26th February 2009
Price: £100.00
1855 was the year of classifications in France - not only was the famous Bordeaux 5-tier system established, but wine expert Dr Jules Lavalle ranked the best terroir of the Cote-d’Or into three groups, forming the basis for what was to become Burgundy’s maze of appellations almost a century later.
Unlike the Medoc classification, which has seen only one mover in over 150 years, there have been a fair few changes in the Burgundian counterpart and the team at Roberson think it is high time we discussed a few more.
We will be looking at Grand Cru vineyards that have come in for criticism from some quarters and comparing them to the top performing 1er Crus. All wines will be tasted blind, in flights of two.
We will be tasting:
1999 Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet; JC Bachelet
1999 Meursault 'Perrieres'; Lafon
2003 Bonnes-Mares; Fougeray de Beauclair
2003 Chambolle-Musigny 'Les Amoureuses'; De Vogue
2000 Charmes-Chambertin; Charlopin
2000 Gevrey-Chambertin 'Clos St Jacques'; Rousseau
