Date: 7pm, Thursday 22nd April 2010
Price: £50.00

This single evening course aims to give those with little or no knowledge of wine a good grounding in the basics. It is ideal for anybody who is interested in wine and would like to learn more about it, or for those who would like to improve their basic knowledge before coming to our regular Thursday night tastings. Our aim is to inform without pretension or talking down in a relaxed, convivial atmosphere with some great wine.

The evening is built around a tasting of eight different wines, by the end of which you will have learned:

  • What wine is, what goes into it and how grape varieties affect the way it tastes.
  • Where wine comes from and how the geography and climate of a vineyard affects the way it tastes.
  • Who makes wine and how the decisions they make in the winery affect the way it tastes.
  • When a wine is ready to drink and how its age and the quality of the vintage in which it is produced affect the way it tastes.

The evening will end with a blind tasting of fine wine.

We are continually adding new dates for this tasting, so check back or call the shop if there isn’t a date that suits you. All tastings are held in our newly refurbished cellars under our Kensington High Street shop. The running time is scheduled to be two hours, but events may run over.
