'An expressive and notably ripe, indeed even ever-so-mildly exotic fruit nose overlaid with ample floral influence leads to slightly finer and detailed middle weight flavors brimming with dry extract that confers a seductive mouth feel onto the intense, dry, persistent and mouth coating finish. There is a hint of sulfur on the entry but not enough to really make me question whether it can be successfully absorbed. Decanting advised.' - Burghound

'Noticeable sulfur detracts mildly from the otherwise earthy aromas of yellow orchard fruit and resin aromas. The big, rich, textured and powerful flavors are textbook Morgeot as there is good volume if not elegance, all wrapped in a delicious, generous and lingering finish. This isn't refined but it's attractive in its fashion as there is a very frank and direct "what you see if what you get" character present.' - Burghound

This possess a curious nose because while there is a mild trace of reduction there is still an impression of freshness; be sure to decant this first. Otherwise, the rich, powerful and admirably concentrated medium weight plus flavors possess fine mid-palate concentration as well as fine length. This is a classic Morgeot though note that my score assumes that the reduction will pass with a few months in bottle. Burghound.com

"Somewhat surprisingly, the nose is even more elegant and finer than that of the Charmes with its ripe, pure and airy aromas of white flower and citrus where the latter also suffuses the textured, concentrated and refined medium-bodied flavors that possess really lovely precision and a subtle finishing mineral character. 'Narcissus, fresh lemon, nettle, and intimations of chalk in the nose of Pascal Cotat’s 2008 Sancerre Les Monts Damnes lead to bright, mouth-watering, practically spine-tingling and yet extract rich and substantial palate. Finishing with brash citricity, bitter hints of huckleberry and lemon pip, and minerality of a sort you lick your lips in vain to remove, this handsomely lean, muscular Monts Damnes (truly dry, at 2 grams residual sugar) should prove fascinating and versatile over the coming 4-6 years.' - Wine Advocate

The 2008 Barolo Vigneto Garretti is a pretty, deceptively medium-bodied wine. All of the La Spinetta signatures are present, but with softer tannins that make the Garretti more accessible and pleasurable young than the estate’s top wines. Plums, black cherries, grilled herbs, mint and sage come alive in the glass. This is yet another gorgeous, striking wine from proprietor Giorgio Rivetti and his team. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023. Tenuta San Guido’s 2008 Guidalberto is a very pretty wine laced with mineral-infused dark fruit. This is a decidedly smaller scaled, lithe Guidalberto that impresses for its overall balance and finesse. The structure of the 2006 and the exuberance of the 2007 are missing, but the 2008 offers superb drinkability and pleasure today and over the next few years. Dried flowers, licorice and new leather add the final nuances of complexity on the finish. The 2008 Guidalberto is Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Most of the fruit comes from vineyards that are separate from those used for Sassicaia, although Guidalberto always includes some barrels that don’t make it into the top wine. Sandrone’s 2008 Barolo Le Vigne is a wine of breathtaking textural finesse and elegance. Nothing really stands out, so phenomenal is the wine’s balance and sense of harmony. This is the kind of wine that is easy to overlook because it doesn’t ask for attention and isn’t showy. Instead, everything is simply in the right place. The finest, most silky of tannins support a core of sweet red berries, flowers, mint and spices, all of which are woven together with total refinement. The eternal, nuanced finish bodes very well for the future. This is a dazzling effort from Luciano and Luca Sandrone. Le Vigne is made from parcels in Vignane, Ceretta, Conterni and Merli. In 2008 there is a little less Vignane as part of the vineyard was hit by hail. There is little question that the blending of fruit from several sites was a huge advantage in 2008. The 2008 Barolo Rocche dell’Annunziata/Torriglione impresses for its silky tannins and overall textural finesse. It shows striking mid-palate richness and gorgeous inner sweetness to match its beautifully delineated, expressive bouquet. Stylistically it is a bit on the masculine side, but very beautiful just the same. Layers of flavor build to the huge, dramatic finish. The Rocche presents a very classic aromatic and flavor profile backed up by serious heft and structure. It is the sweetest and most seductive of the 2008s. Readers will need to be especially patient, though. The Rocche shuts down hard in the glass. It won’t be an easy wine, but those who can wait will be handsomely rewarded. 'The 2008 Terra de Verema Triumvirat is made by Ester Nin, vineyard manager of Clos Erasmus. It is a blend of 90% Carinena, 5% Garnacha, and 5% Syrah aged for 12 months in French oak. Dark ruby-colored with an already complex bouquet of pepper, Asian spices, mineral, and black cherry, on the palate it is supple, suave bordering on opulent, succulent, and very long. It can be approached now but will be more expressive with another 2-3 years of bottle age.' - Wine Advocate

'The 2008 Don Melchor is a blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc that is aged for 15 months in French oak (72% new and 28% one-year old.) It has a crisp, precise nose of blackberry, fish scale and fresh black olives. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins on the entry. It is grippy in the mouth with good weight, but manages to retain fine focus and builds nicely to a citrus-fresh finish with touches of orange peel and marmalade.' - Wine Advocate

'The 2008 Pinot Noir Antica Terra includes some purchased fruit. Dark ruby red in color, it offers up a super-fragrant bouquet of minerals, underbrush, floral notes, spice box, incense, black cherry, and black raspberry. Layered on the palate with dense, concentrated fruit, it manages to remain light on its feet. Elegant, beautifully balanced, and lengthy, it merits 2-3 years of cellaring and will deliver great pleasure from 2013 to 2023. ' - Wine Advocate
