White Burgundy

As with the 750 ml version (see herein), the signature notes of honeysuckle and citrus aromas are present but so are significant toast aromas that are borderline intrusive lead to naturally sweet, intense, delineated and punchy medium full flavors that offer plenty of mid-palate density and buffering fat for the bright and ripe finishing acidity. This packs plenty of size, weight and power for Bienvenues and despite the wood treatment, which should successfully integrate in time, this is most impressive plus it should drink well for another 5 to 10 years. For my taste, I would allow this another 3 to 5 years in the cellar first. Allen Meadows.

Strong but not over the top wood spice presently fights for center stage with exotic, spicy and perfumed very ripe peach and apricot aromas. The massive, vanilla tinged flavors are extremely rich, powerful and blessed with enormous amounts of dry extract that coats and stains the palate. This has grand cru weight yet it does not lack for finesse and the backend delivers incredible length plus a touch of warmth. Wines like this are indeed most impressive and to be sure, the underlying raw material cannot be faulted but this is a bit too much for me and I prefer the regular cuvée of the Genevrières even though it's not quite as dramatic. Prost was, justifiably, extremely proud of this wine and observed that it may be the best "straight" Chevalier that he's ever made. Not surprisingly, this is a good deal more elegant than the Bâtard with gorgeously pure floral and white fruit, stone and subtle spice aromas that seamlessly merge into the almost painfully intense and vibrant flavors that, like the Perrières, possess crystalline purity and huge length. "This too is relatively restrained with a pretty but reluctant white flower and spice box nose that slides gracefully into fresh, super intense and tautly muscled full-bodied flavors brimming with dry extract that confers a distinctly textured quality onto the powerful and chewy finish. This is a big Bâtard yet for all its size and weight, everything is harnessed and focused as the length just goes on and on with no sense of top heaviness. One of the more impressive examples of Bâtard that I have ever seen because it rarely ascends to territory normally reserved for the likes of Montrachet and Chevalier or the occasional Charlemagne ." A wonderfully elegant, pure and high-toned nose that is quite floral with a pronounced citrus influence to the green apple and wet stone notes that border on a mineral-reduction character, which continues onto the detailed and equally pure flavors that possess a cuts-like-a-knife linearity on the bone dry and palate staining finish. This is like sucking on pebbles and while the flavors are distinctly austere at present, the balance is impeccable and this should make for a first-rate vintage for this wine in time. 'Here however the SO2 is more noticeable at present and I would strongly suggest decanting this if you're going to try one young. Otherwise, there are pretty notes of lemon and rose petal with a hint of resin that precedes the attractively textured middle weight flavors that possess good fat but no the same cut and intensity. To be sure, this is delicious and finishes with an agreeable dryness but overall, I slightly prefer the Chaumées.' - Burghound

'Noticeable sulfur detracts mildly from the otherwise earthy aromas of yellow orchard fruit and resin aromas. The big, rich, textured and powerful flavors are textbook Morgeot as there is good volume if not elegance, all wrapped in a delicious, generous and lingering finish. "Like the Caillerets, this is noticeably reduced and I would suggest 20 minutes or so of aeration as the reduction is not subtle at present. As is typically the case, this is less mineral-driven than the Caillerets but compensates by more body, richness and power as well as outstanding complexity on the mouth coating and lingering finish. This is lovely and while the nose isn't yet what it should be, this will almost certainly develop in time." Burghound
