This wine from Château des Pertonniere shows Beaujolais at its best; it is in a different league to the everyday Beaujolais found all over the supermarkets - try it to see why!
A truly ancient Domaine deep in Southern Beaujolais dating back to the 1500s. 100 hectares of vines tended without chemicals. Most of the vineyards face southeast and are planted with Gamay on granitic soil. Hand harvesting and vinified without SO2, wines are not chaptalized or filtered, and indigenous yeast is…
Jean Claude Lapalu is one of a handful of organically certified producers in Beaujolais. Brouilly is one of the famous 10 'Crus' of the region, and the vines harvested for this 'Cuvée des Fous' are over 100 years old. Uniquely for Beaujolais, it is bottled in a Bordeaux bottle due to an amusing conversation about selling bordeaux in 2000. The wine was incredibly popular, and the bottle shape stuck!
From the heart of Beaujolais, this 2019 is taken from vines that are on average 70 years old! With an exceptional maturity, this wine offers a rich nose of red fruits and a powerful finish.
From Julien Sunier, Beaujolais' most exciting young producer, comes this epic Beaujolais-Villages. Made with old vine Gamay grown in some of the region's best sites, but labelled as Beaujolais-Villages and sold at a superb price. This wine is naturally made, not using any sulphur during vilification or bottling.
David and Michele are definitely Beaujolais's ones to watch. They work organically in some of the regions best cru's, and their Beaujolais Villages really shows the amazing potential in this often overlooked region.
