Exceptional New Releases from Bergström Wines

As US specialists Roberson Wine have become somewhat experts on all things west coast, but there is a hidden gem amongst our portfolio from the Pacific Northwest, we are of course talking about Bergström Vineyards. A family owned vineyard producing some of the most expressive wine to come out of the state of Oregon.

These are truly micro production wines, for example, fewer than 250 cases made of the Bergström Vineyard Pinot Noir! With so few bottles made and global demand sky high only a few cases make it to the UK each year. These are some of the most sought-after wines to come out of Oregon. It’s no wonder we sell out each year.

Bergström is based in the heart of the Willamette Valley a region long since recognised for having ideal conditions for Burgundian varietals (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir), the climate provides a long growing season, cool wet winters, followed by warm summers with cool evening providing excellent ripening conditions. The region’s conditions so perfect that big players from Burgundy have also been drawn to the region, most notably Joseph Drouhin and Louis Jadot opening wineries.

Bergström Vineyards was founded in 1999 by Josh Bergström’s parent’s John and Karen. When John returned from his studies in Burgundy they began production of their own estate wines. Since then they have grown the holdings to 84 acres across four of the finest AVAs in the region, they have just 5 vineyards all farmed organically and biodynamically.

His wines are really a passion project, his premium Chardonnay is named after his grandmother. In Josh’s own words “it’s not a wine I can mess up”. This passion shines through all his wines and this is obvious when you look at the recent scores achieved. In the recent Oregon reports for Vinous Media Josh’s wines are consistently some of the top performing wines for critic Josh Raynolds.



2017 Sigrid Chardonnay - 95 Points
Pale yellow. A suave, intensely perfumed bouquet features tangerine, pear, iodine, buttered toast and fresh fig scents, and spicy ginger and floral notes emerge as the wine opens up. Penetrating, concentrated and focused on the palate, with ripe acidity bracing powerful citrus and orchard fruit, honeysuckle and saffron flavors. Rich but minerally and lithe, with superb finishing energy and floral-tinged persistence

2017 Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir – 95 Points

Limpid ruby. Highly perfumed aromas of black raspberry, cherry cola, candied flowers and exotic spices, along with savory herb and smoky mineral qualities in the background. Juicy and impressively concentrated, showing strong tension to the vibrant red and dark berry, cherry preserve, rose pastille and spicecake flavors. Becomes fleshier with air and finishes extremely long and precise, with sneaky tannins and reverberating florality.

2017 Silice Vineyard Pinot Noir – 93 Points
Vivid ruby-red. Spice- and mineral-accented red berry, cherry and floral pastille scents show sharp definition and pick up suggestions of licorice and exotic spices with air. Sweet and penetrating on the palate, offering gently chewy raspberry, red currant and cherry flavors that deliver appealing spiciness and firm back-end cut. Concentrated yet lithe in style, finishing with powerful thrust and slowly building tannins. 

2018 Le Pré du Col Pinot Noir – 94 Points
Saturated crimson. Expressive red and blue fruits, incense and candied flowers on the expansive, seductively perfumed nose,which is energized by a smoky mineral nuance. Sappy, alluringly sweet and finely detailed on the palate, offering deeply concentrated yet lively Chambord, boysenberry and cola flavors, along with a suave Asian spice nuance. Fine-grained and seamless in texture, finishing with solid, spicy thrust, resonating florality and smooth, harmonious tannins.

2018 Bergström Vineyard Pinot Noir – 95 Points

Limpid ruby-red. Highly perfumed aromas of ripe red fruits, candied flowers, incense and Asian spices; cola and licorice notes add deeper character. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering energetic Chambord, cherry, blood orange and rose pastille flavors and exotic spice flavors that show superb definition. In a fresh, exuberant style for the year, with smooth tannins sneaking in slowly to add shape and grip to the impressively long, focused finish. All whole clusters and 15% new oak.


For a collection to score this highly across the board is remarkable, it shows the passion, commitment and skills Josh and his team are putting into the vineyards and the winemaking. They are wonderful expressions of the Willamette Valley and it shows exactly why the greats of Burgundy are investing so heavily in the region.

Josh doesn’t release his wines according to a schedule, they will be released when the previous vintage has run out, which in the case of the new releases is why there are differing vintages available.
