Named after the unique soils found that consist of deep layers of gravel and stone, red wines from Graves are aromatic and refined with an attractive mineral quality. This wine has lovely berry fruit on the nose and a supple texture. Dark fruit and spice dominate the mid-palate providing excellent depth that is supported by firm but ripe tannins.
The picture-perfect rose clad fortress of Château Lamothe-Bouscaut near Cadaujac in Pessac-Léognan sits proudly surrounded by 12 hectares of vineyard on gravel soils close to the Garonne River. Sophie Lurton and her husband Laurent Cogombles bought the estate in 1999 but she and her family had been farming the land since 1945.
