“This is a Pomerol pretender as many of the best Lalandes are with polished coffee beans and chocolate to round out the berry fruits. There’s a touch of reduction on first nose but that clears quickly - a good reflection of the winemaking style on the lees. This is one of the estates to watch in Pomerol, with a new team in place since 2016, overseeing the ageing and bottling of this but not the growing season (it was Silvio Denz in 2015). “A big-time sleeper of the vintage from proprietor Silvio Denz, this sensational 2011 transcends the vintage as well as the reputation of the appellation. It exhibits a dense ruby/purple color along with plenty of chocolaty berry fruit and a plump, full-bodied, opulent, layered style. This is about as good as a Lalande de Pomerol can be. Drink it over the next 6-8 years.”
