(I find out later: 5 g/l just to balance the acidity.) Not quite bone dry but excellent harmony. Intense citrus on the palate, accentuated by that little bit of sweetness, with a touch of spice that is perhaps from the lees, but there is also a certain steeliness on the finish. Pretty impressive to get this intensity of flavour from English Chardonnay. Should be even better with another six months in bottle. ”
“English still wines are certainly moving fast and quickly catching up with their exquisite sparkling counterparts! Simpsons Wine Estate’s Chardonnay is delightfully creamy – much thanks to extended time on the fine lees – and has a generous bouquet of white peach, pear and Fuji apples with very well integrated acidity. We’ll want to taste the vintages to come and see the full potential of a more mature vineyard!”
“Bright and fresh, with ripe pear, crisp green apple and zesty citrus notes, reminiscent of English orchards. To taste, those clean orchard fruit flavours really shine, whilst delicate white peach and hints of tropics plus the light, leesy textures that elevate the experience. For a wine that has only just been bottled, this is a striking indication of just how great 2018 vintage still English wines are going to be.”
