“Jeff Coutelou’s Vin des Amis 2013 is a blend of 75% Syrah and 25% Grenache. It’s packed with plump, juicy dark cherry and berry fruits, so it’s easy to underestimate how structured and firm this wine really is beneath all that palate-friendly fruit.”
“Simply stupendous value for money. A lovely, stoney minerality runs through the wine, augmented by a host of flavours that, while still young and primary, are immediately rewarding. There are touches of forest fruit coulis, red currants, sweet damsons, herbs and a perfumed aroma. Utterly delicious, this manages to be both crunchy and lush. Buy it by the case.”
“Grenache with 25% Syrah. Smudgy ruby. (Pale than the all-Syrah 7 Rue de la Pompe). Annoying wax seals make a terrible mess and there are shards in the wine. Not the generosity usually associated with Grenache but a serious wine for the money. Very firm finish suggests this could do with a little more bottle age. Very clean. Unusual and ambitious.”
“This is a brilliant wine from Mas Coutelou - so joyful, vibrant, pure and grippy - and affordable.' ”
“From the Béziers region in Languedoc, this exciting domaine (no stranger to these pages) has been making wine with minimal intervention since 1987. Predominantly Syrah with some Grenache, the nose is packed with juicy black fruit and the palate is vibrant and fresh with great depth of flavour.”
