With fruit sourced predominantly from Rajat Parr and Sashi Moorman’s Domaine de la Côte estate vineyards - some of the best vineyards in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA - Sandhi's Pinot Noir is world class. It offers ripe, concentrated, classically Californian purity of fruit, with incredible elegance and balance.
In his recent review of the Sandhi wines, Antonio Galloni said: ‘It is quite conceivable that within a few years the Sandhi Chardonnays and Pinots could become reference point, benchmark wines for Santa Barbara, and ...Learn more
“Sandhi, the Sanskrit word for collaboration, is a 2010 joint venture between sommelier Rajat Parr and winemaker Sashi Moorman. Fruit for this intense, opulent Pinot comes from their Domaine de la Côte estate vineyards, so you know the quality hasn't been skimped, even in this entry-level wine. It's a very concentrated style, with lots of blue and purple berry ripeness, a smooth creamy texture and a long mineral finish.”
“Taut, with a slight reductive edge to the nose, and a supple, generous, ripe palate. Sweet red fruits with a smooth mouthfeel, and fine spicy framing. Luxurious. ”
“Just bottled, the 2016 Pinot Noir (Sta. Rita Hills) is positively stellar. Powerful and deep in the glass, with unusual depth, the 2016 has so much to offer. There is a level of sheer richness I have never seen in this bottling before. Blue and purplish berry fruit, lavender and spice flavors are all amped up. This is a very serious wine at the appellation level. Then again, the core of this wine is now composed of vineyards that belong to Domaine de la Côte. If there is one wine that over delivers big time in 2016, Sandhi's Santa Rita Hills Pinot is it. Don't miss it.”
“The 2017 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills is made using fruit from the Domaine de la Côte vineyards (80%) with the rest from the Sanford & Benedict vineyard and was 100% destemmed and aged in neutral barrels. Pale to medium ruby, the nose slowly opens to pretty layers of spice and savory fruit, with aromas of rose petal, sliced blueberries, warm Bing cherries, wild blackberries, peppered salami, amaro and raspberry jam. Light to medium-bodied, the palate gives up lots of spices and savory notes with ripe, grainy tannins and seamless acidity, finishing long and nuanced.”
“ ''The 2017 Pinot Noir (Sta. Rita Hills) is a gorgeous appellation wine that punches well above its weight. Then again, most of the fruit is from Domaine de la Côte, with a healthy dollop (20%) of grapes from Sanford & Benedict. Dark cherry, plum, spice, licorice and menthol infuse this radiant Pinot with tremendous fruit density and power. Dark cherry, plum, licorice and spice are pushed forward. There is so much to like.''”
