“Barbera from Piemonte, 2013 vintage. Beautifully fragrant on the nose, sour cherry fruit and sharp acidity, giving it a real sparky edge. Really fine tannins – sculpted and balanced, just lending a furriness to the finish. Very savoury, and very light – but not at all dilute. ”
“Supple, bright, expressive wine with spicy black fruits over damson and plums. Lovely acidity and a bit of bite (this was 12.5% alcohol and pH 3.35 after malo). Vibrant juicy fruit and lovely grippiness. ”
“The wine retains a hint of the bilberry savagery I like to see in this grape, but it’s smooth in the mouth. Distinguished from many of its Italian cousins by a gutsy, robust fullness and a surprising lick of vanilla (from the oak) and liquorice. I reckon it would be good with rare-cooked grouse.”
