How J. Laurens continue to make this incredible Crémant for such a low price is a total mystery. It's made in the same painstaking traditional way as Champagne, from the domaine's best parcels of vines - and tastes better than many Champagnes we've tried at double the price.

In Limoux, big co-operatives like Sieur d’Arques still produce around 80% of the area's wine. It's tough finding smaller, more interesting, standout producers, especially those focused on sparkling wines. That's where Domaine J Laurens comes in. Led by Jacques Calvel, this domaine continues the work started by Champagne enthusiast Michel…

IN THE PRESS

91 POINTS - DECANTER - 2021

"Ripe peach, Bramley apple and yellow plums express themselves fully on the nose, the energetic bubbles creating a vortex of orchard fruit aromas. There’s a roundness and weight in the mouth, a creamy ripeness, some crème patissière and honeysuckle characters. Light bitter lemon rind spears through the finish and the full foamy mousse."

93 POINTS - DECANTER - 2020

"With its fresh lemons and delicate florals on the nose, this great-value crémant is both refreshing and pretty, with a pithy lemon sherbet vein under ripe yellow apple and pear flavours. Bright, large bubbles activate the attack and carry a chalky, mineral texture onto the finish. Hand-harvested Chardonnay and Chenin take centre stage, while Pinot Noir and the local Mauzac lend back-up vocals."

93 POINTS - DECANTER - 2018

"A complex nose, full of cirtrus fruits and wild flower honey. This has a gorgeous weight to it, immediately impactful but with a lightness of touch. Crisp green apples come in on the palate supported by lemon and lime juiciness. Good acidity levels keep this refreshing. Well-rounded and balanced. A more serious wine if you can call it that, giving more depth so this would be excellent with food but their regular methode traditionelle is also an excellent crowd-pleasing aperitif style. A blend of 60% Chardonnay, 30% Chenin Blanc and 5% Mauzac Blanc. Incredible value and a seriously delicious alternative to Champagne."
