Brut Océan is a bone dry, hand-harvested Jurançon Sec cuvée of 100% Gros Manseng, a main local varietal from the Jurançon appellation near the town of Pau in the extreme south-west of France. A superb alternative to Picpoul.
A top quality Picpoul de Pinet from one of the few small, artisan producers in the area. Deliciously dry and refreshing.
A delicious Syrah/Grenache blend from Costières de Nîmes in the southern Rhone. Les Vignerons d'Estezargues is a celebrated cooperative in the south of France, which specialises in organically grown wines that showcase each individual property that is part of the coop. In this case, Domaine de Périllière.
Decanter Magazine scores 92 - Victoria Daskal "Pale brilliant ruby. A hugely refreshing, light-bodied and cheerful Beaujolais that maintains a divine purity of red berry fruit. Soft, silky tannins, mouth-watering acidity, and the perfect amount of red cherry, cranberry and redcurrant concentration until the end. Situated in southern Beaujolais, the domaine dates back to the 1500s and manages its 100ha organically. All hand harvested, vinified without SO2, wines are not chaptalised or filtered, and indigenous yeast is used."
This wine from the brilliant Domaine des Cognettes is a reminder of just how good top-quality Muscadet can be. From the best producer, in the best area of Muscadet, it's an absolute steal.
Sustainability is very important to Clotilde, and she has put a lot of time and energy into ensuring her wines aren’t just delicious, but also good for the planet. Her ‘Lizieres’ Saumur rouge is a wonderful example of how this time and effort has paid off. Made from sustainably grown Cabernet Franc, this wine is bursting with black and red fruit, with a lovely crunchy texture.
Mâcon-Vergissons' 'Les Rochers' is a steep, limestone-infused site that produces a superb and great-value wine. This Mâcon-Vergisson is all about finesse, with lovely aromatic purity.
A 75cl bottle of VdF Tinus Rouge d'Une Nuit 2020 by Château des Tourettes (Guffens-Heynen). A red wine from the Rhône region of France. A blend of Grenache, Caberent Sauvignon and Syrah.
François Merlin is one of the most exciting names in the Northern Rhône today, producing elegant Syrah and Viognier. This is an excellent value and expressive example of a Northern Rhone red!
From the very heart of the Loire Valley, Quincy is lean and herbaceous similar in style to Sancerre. Domaine Adéle Rouzé has 5.5 hectares of Sauvignon vines making wines exactly as the region dictates - a lovely wine very much of a place.
Chardonnay may be Burgundy's superstar but take note of the revival of Aligoté. It's often under-appreciated and can therefore provide incredible value from even the top producers. Romaric's wines have long been at the core of Roberson's range and his status grows year on year. 'Les Maréchaux', located in Meursault is a new parcel of Aligoté recently acquired by the Domaine after the 'Petits Poiriers' vines were replaced.
How J. Laurens continue to make this incredible Crémant for such a low price is a total mystery. It's made in the same painstaking traditional way as Champagne, from the domaine's best parcels of vines - and tastes better than many Champagnes we've tried at double the price.
Chablis Schaller are part of the new wave generation of young winemakers making a name for themselves in Chablis. Their family have been growers for generations, selling grapes to the big co-operatives. Now, the grand children want to carve their own name in this corner of Burgundy.
Decanter Magazine Score 94 - Victoria Daskal "Dark, vivid ruby colour. Ripe and lively aromas, packed with dark berry fruit laced with nutmeg and cloves. A full-bodied cru Beaujolais with powerful, thick tannins and concentrated fruit intensity. From low-yielding, 70-year-old vines, farmed biodynamically. Fermented with natural yeasts without the addition of any sulphur dioxide. Wines are aged six to eight months in used oak barrels from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Bottled without filtration."
To the north of Montpellier, in the foothills of the Cevennes Mountains, with some of the highest altitude vineyards in the Languedoc is the Terrasses du Larzac AOC. This fledgling appellation, created in 2005, is strictly reserved to red wines, where Southern French staples Mourvèdre, Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault & Carignan are grown to produce deep coloured, full bodied, fruit forward wines. Mas des Brousses's expression is unique and not quite like any other we've tried. A perfect balance between Mediterranean warmth with the freshness of Larzac makes for a wonderful Autumnal wine.
A 75cl bottle of Château Moncets 2018 by Moncets-Chambrun. A red wine from Lalande-de-Pomerol in the Bordeaux region of France. A blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
A 75cl bottle of IGP Collines Rhodaniennes Brocélandie Viognier 2021 by Domaine Francois Merlin. A white wine from Northern Rhône in the Rhône region of France. Made from Viognier.
