Saint Emilion is one of the oldest wine producing appellations in Bordeaux, with a history stretching back to the Roman occupation of France. It sits on the ‘Right Bank’ of Bordeaux and is most well known for producing Merlot dominant red wines. These include some of the finest producers in the world, including the highly sought-after Chateau Angelus, Chateau Pavie and Chateau Cheval Blanc. Saint Emilion was not included in the 1855 classification system that is famous on the Left Bank. Instead they devised their own system, which is reclassified every 10 years and provides an excellent indication of quality.
