Languedoc-Roussillon

Languedoc-Roussillon is a handy term for grouping together a number of different wine regions across a vast area of the south of France, stretching almost from the Rhône Valley in the east to the Spanish border in the west. The Languedoc includes appellations such as Minervois, Corbières, Fitou, Limoux, St-Chinian, Faugères, Clairette du Languedoc and Picpoul de Pinet. Roussillon consists mainly of various Côtes du Roussillon appellations but also Banyuls and Rivesaltes for France’s best fortified sweet wines. Across this vast area, the theme is innovation. Quality is rising rapidly as exciting new winemakers and investors, priced out of the more traditional wine regions head south to exploit the cheaper land and experiment with new techniques and grape varieties. This is the cutting edge for French wine, and the value, variety and interest to be found here is unmatched.
