Grüner Veltliner is inextricably linked with the wines of one country - Austria. It is the most planted grape variety there but is barely seen anywhere else in the world. That is surely set to change as Grüner Veltliner not only becomes increasingly fashionable, but shows its potential with improving quality year on year. Although there is still a lot of cheap, neutral Grüner Veltliner, the trend is very much towards better quality, pricier wines from excellent producers and specific vineyard sites, especially along the Danube. The wines are usually dry, full-bodied and spicy with a subtle peachy character.
