Clos Galerne

Le Clos Galerne is the creation of idealists, a winemaking family who relocated here to search out the best terroirs and make their own wine. Eleven hectares of the finest tiny parcels of Anjou Noir, Pierre Bise, Moulin Brûlé Beaulieu-sur-Layon, Savennières and Chaume are now owned and farmed by Cédric and Myrtille Bourez and family. Having trained at Château d’Esclans Cedric and his wife Myrtille decided to establish their own Domaine, they established cellars in 2018 and began with 7 hectares on the sandstone and green schist slopes above Layon and Savennières. The lieu-dit in Brûlé Beaulieu-sur-Layon faces southeast on spilite soil as are the other parcels the family farm here. All the land is currently under conversion to organic.

Fruit is delicately hand harvested and fermented using indigenous yeasts. All wines tend to go through malolactic, the Chenin spends 11 months on lees. The Balade en Chenin vines are about 25 years old on average. The Exspecto comes from a miniscule parcel of old vines (0.35 hectares on purple schist and spilite) Elevage is about 12 months in old barrels. Les Rouinnières comes from 0.5 hectares of spilite and sandstone and using smaller barrels. Moulin Brûlé is vinified similarly but aged in 600 and 225 litre barrels.
