Vignoble du Rêveur is a solo project by Mathieu Deiss, son of the controversial and brilliant winemaker at Domaine Marcel Deiss’s, Jean-Michel.
Working alongside his father at the family Domaine, Mathieu has not only learned how to make first-rate wine: he has also inherited the Deiss's fiercely independent approach to his craft with a sustained determination to stay creative. Like his father, he is a champion of terroir and is happy to blend different grape varietals if it serves to best express the character of a particular plot and vintage. Though this may not seem a particularly unique practice, it is potentially controversial in a region like Alsace where varietal is paramount
Mathieu has reclaimed vines that were left to him by his grandfather and uncle and now vinifies at the Marcel Deiss winery. All fruit is estate grown in the Deiss way and in vineyards either organic or biodynamic. Fermentation is with natural yeasts only and at bottling, minimum sulphur. Here are wines beautifully poised, supple and expressive.
