Dominique Piron is the 14th generation winemaker of his family that can be traced back to 1590, when his ancestors were already producing and selling gamay wines in Morgon. A century later, they became one of the first Beaujolais merchants to send their wines to Paris via the newly built canal linking the Loire to the Seine river. Their vineyards are located on 8 crus: Morgon, Moulin à Vent, Régnié, Brouilly, Chenas, Fleurie, Chiroubles and Saint Amour.
Tradition has been a longstanding value in the family and the vines are grown organically, hand-harvested and the wines made with little intervention, the idea being to express the specificity of each of the terroir with finesse and elegance.
Without children to continue his legacy, Dominique Piron partnered up with Julien Revillon, who forged himself a second life as a winemaker after working in finance on behalf of many Northern Rhone wineries. Also coming from a historic winemaking family, he decided to return to his roots in northern Beaujolais where he acquired 7 hectares in the best crus of the appellation to realise his dreams of producing his own wines.
This Chenas is from 60-year old vines on granite and quartz soils and is as delicious, complex and age worthy as many a top red Burgundy.
